Mud cooling system for geothermal wells

A geothermal well is very similar to an oil and gas well in construction, containing layers of casing and cement around open hole through which geothermal fluid will flow. As the wells are targeting hot water, so the drilling fluids with a higher temperature. AIPU mud cooling system helps to protect drilling tools, transfer equipment, and solids control system. During well drilling, the heat generates from abrasion between drilling tools and ground, also the temperature of underground is higher than surface initially. Especially when we drill geothermal well with a guidance continuous tool, we have to limit the temperature of fluid at a certain level for stable performance of the all drilling equipment.

AIPU solid control can offer a more suitable mud cooling solution on the high temperature wells in the Oil & Gas and Geothermal Drilling Industry. Our mud cooling system is proposed to used after the desilter unit of AIPU solids control system based on our experience and regular clients’ feedback. The mud cooler can reduce the temperature difference by 30 degrees, while please note that the mud cooling can not be lower than the ambient temperature. The system incorporates one or two plate heat exchangers designed in accordance with actual flow rate. It has a complete piping assembly with gauges and manually operated butterfly valves for drilling fluids and cooling water flow control. The heat exchangers can be operated in parallel or as individual units depending on duties required.
