Why drilling fluids is so important as drilling fluids perform many functions in a borehole. It was initially used as a
means of removing cuttings from a borehole. Except for this point, drilling fluids has many functions or duties as.

a. Drilling fluids will remove cuttings from the bottom of the hole as the drill bit creates them before the
next bit tooth regrinds them. The fluid must be able to impact the cuttings as they are created with sufficient force to move them from the bottom of the hole.

b. Transport the cuttings to the surface without regrinding.

c. Prevent a blow-out, and prevent change in hole size (or hole instability), as well as create a “slick” hole to prevent stuck pipe.

d. Economically deliver a useable well bore.

e. Control torque on drill strings; particularly in deviated wells. Buoy the weight of the drill string. And cool drill bit.

How should we process drilling fluids?

As we know drilling fluids is dear. To save cost for drilling contractor, the rig is equipped with the correct drilling fluid processing equipment that is solids control equipment to achieve this goal

Main solids control equipment

Shale shaker has very coarse screens and is designed to remove large chunks of rock that might damage a very fine shaker screen. AIPU Hunter-MG series shale shaker is repeat ordered by onshore drilling contractors, as features of large screen non blanked area, competitive cost, and equivalent working performance with SWACO shaker.

Vacuum degasser mounted on the mud tanks to remove gas from the drilling fluid so that the centrifugal pumps in the system can function properly. Degasser is very important for returning mud gravity and stabilizing mud viscosity. There are treating capacities of 240, 270, 300, and 360 cubic meters per hour produced by AIPU for clients’ options.

Mud cleaner is the third class solids control equipment. AIPU mud cleaners are combined from Desander, Desilter, and a bottom shaker. It has a higher cleaning function compared with separated desander and desilter. 

Decanter centrifuge includes high speed centrifuge, low speed centrifuge, variable frequency drive centrifuge, as well as hydraulic centrifuge.

Location of solids control equipment

Mud tank is used to store drilling fluids, and all solids control equipment will be installed on it.

Auxiliary solid control equipment

Centrifugal pump is worked as a feeding pump for desander, desilter, mud cleaner, and mixer. The function of it is transferring drilling mud from one equipment to another.

Mud agitator is the auxiliary equipment to mud tank, we call it mud tank agitator as well. It used to prevent drilling mud settling from mud tank. The agitator is used together with mud guns for a better performance.
