High volume mud systems present specific challenges that demand shale shaker equipment engineered for maximum throughput without compromising separation quality. Aipu Solids Control has developed its high capacity shale shaker line to handle the elevated flow rates and heavy cuttings loads characteristic of high volume mud applications, combining over 15 years of manufacturing experience with the engineering capability to deliver reliable performance at the highest processing rates.

High volume mud applications are encountered in several drilling scenarios. Large-diameter surface hole sections—typically 26 inches, 22 inches, or 17-1/2 inches—generate enormous cuttings volumes that require correspondingly high circulation rates for adequate hole cleaning. High-rate drilling programs using optimized hydraulics for maximum rate of penetration push circulation rates to the upper limits of rig pumping capacity. Unconsolidated formations that require high-viscosity sweeps benefit from elevated flow rates for effective cuttings transport. In each case, the shale shaker must process the full circulating volume without allowing fluid or solids to bypass the screening process. Aipu high capacity shakers with effective screen areas up to 8.1 square meters in the Hunter-MG4T tandem configuration provide the processing headroom needed for these demanding applications.
The viscosity characteristics of high volume mud systems affect shaker performance. Higher viscosity drilling fluids drain through screen openings more slowly than low-viscosity fluids, reducing the effective capacity of a given screen area. Operators of high volume mud systems must consider both the flow rate and the viscosity when sizing shaker capacity. Aipu’s adjustable deck angles from minus 1 degree to plus 5 degrees provide an important tool for managing viscous mud processing—flatter deck angles increase cuttings residence time, allowing more fluid drainage before discharge, while steeper angles increase conveyance speed for high solids loads. Premium Ital-Vibras, Martin, and Oli motors operating at 6.0G to 7.5G provide the consistent vibration intensity needed to overcome the resistance of viscous fluid films on screen surfaces.
Screen strategy for high volume mud should consider both capacity and separation objectives. Coarser screens provide higher throughput and may be appropriate for surface hole sections where the separation objective is bulk removal rather than fine screening. As the well progresses to intermediate and production sections, finer screens improve separation quality but reduce capacity per unit area. Progressive screen configurations—coarser at the feed end with finer screens toward discharge—balance capacity and separation quality across the screen deck. Aipu provides screens in mesh sizes from API 40 to API 200 in both stainless steel and composite frame options, supporting the full range of high volume mud applications. Manufactured in Aipu’s 50,000 square meter Xi’an facility under API Q1 certified quality management, every high capacity shaker is tested to verify the throughput and separation performance specifications that high volume mud systems depend on. Equipment operating in more than 30 countries validates Aipu shakers in the most demanding high volume mud applications worldwide.
