Solids control shale shaker equipment is the primary mechanical separation device used in drilling operations to remove drill cuttings and other solid particles from drilling fluid. As the first and most critical stage in a solids control system, the shale shaker processes all drilling fluid returning from the wellbore, using vibratory screens to separate solids from liquid. Aipu Solids Control manufactures API Q1 certified shale shakers that deliver the reliable separation performance essential for efficient drilling operations.

Basic Operating Principle
A shale shaker operates by directing drilling fluid onto a vibrating screen surface. The vibration, generated by precision motors from Ital-Vibras, Martin, or Oli, creates a conveying action that moves solids across the screen toward the discharge end while liquid drilling fluid passes through the screen openings into a collection sump below. The separated solids are discharged for disposal, while the cleaned drilling fluid returns to the active mud system for recirculation. This simple yet effective principle forms the foundation of all solids control operations.
Key Components and Specifications
A typical Aipu shale shaker consists of several essential components. The screen basket holds the screening surface and is fabricated from stainless steel for corrosion resistance. The vibratory motors generate controlled G-forces between 6.0G and 7.5G, with the exact level adjustable based on drilling conditions. The deck angle adjustment mechanism allows operators to modify screen inclination from minus 1 degree to plus 5 degrees. The base frame supports the vibrating assembly and incorporates isolation mounts that prevent vibration transmission to the rig structure. Processing capacities range from 50 cubic meters per hour for the Hunter-Mini to 420 cubic meters per hour for the MG4T tandem model.
Importance in Drilling Operations
Without effective shale shaker operation, drill cuttings accumulate in the drilling fluid, increasing density and viscosity beyond design parameters. This degradation affects rate of penetration, increases the risk of stuck pipe and lost circulation, and accelerates wear on mud pumps and downhole tools. The shale shaker prevents these problems by maintaining drilling fluid quality throughout the well construction process.
