Shale Shaker Equipment Pneumatic System Options

Pneumatic drive systems provide a specialized power option for shale shaker equipment operating in environments where electrical ignition sources must be eliminated or where compressed air is the primary available utility. Pneumatic shale shakers use air motors to generate the vibration motion that separates drilled solids from drilling fluid, offering inherent safety advantages in classified hazardous areas. Aipu Solids Control offers pneumatic system configurations for its Hunter series shaker range, combining the proven mechanical design with air motor drive technology backed by API Q1 certified manufacturing quality at the 50,000 square meter Xi’an production facility.

Pneumatic Motor Technology and Integration

Aipu pneumatic shale shaker systems utilize high-torque air motors from leading manufacturers, selected for their durability and performance characteristics in continuous-duty drilling applications. The air motors are directly mounted on the shaker basket in the same configuration as electric vibrator motors, producing the elliptical motion pattern that conveys solids across the screen surface. The pneumatic drive system includes an air preparation unit with filtration, regulation, and lubrication components that ensure clean, properly conditioned compressed air reaches the motors. Flow control valves allow operators to adjust the motor speed and resulting G-force output by modulating the compressed air supply, providing operational flexibility to match changing drilling conditions. The Hunter-MG4D double-deck configuration with 5.4 square meters of total screen area and up to 280 cubic meters per hour capacity can be supplied with dual pneumatic motors driving both the upper and lower screen decks. Aipu engineers calculate the compressed air consumption requirements based on the shaker model and desired operating parameters, helping operators size their air compressor and receiver capacity appropriately. The pneumatic system is fully tested at the Xi’an factory before delivery, with documentation supporting the equipment certification for hazardous area operation.

Operational Benefits and Field Applications

The primary advantage of pneumatic drive is the elimination of electrical ignition sources, which simplifies hazardous area compliance and reduces the cost and complexity of explosion proof certification. Pneumatic shakers produce no electromagnetic interference, making them suitable for operations near sensitive electronic equipment or in mines where electrical equipment restrictions apply. The air motor exhaust can be piped away from the work area, providing a degree of cooling and ventilation around the shaker installation. Pneumatic systems are inherently tolerant of overload conditions, as the air motor will simply stall rather than overheat when subjected to excessive load. Aipu has deployed pneumatic-drive shale shakers in underground mining drilling, tunnel boring projects, and oilfield operations where the client’s safety management system requires pneumatic equipment in specific zones. With over 15 years of solids control experience and export to more than 30 countries, Aipu provides the technical support to evaluate whether pneumatic drive is the optimal choice for a given drilling application and to specify the complete system from air preparation through shaker operation.
