The basket, also called the screen basket or vibrating basket, is the dynamic component of a shale shaker that holds the screen panels and transmits vibration to the drilling fluid and cuttings. It is a critical structural element that must withstand intense dynamic loading while maintaining precise dimensional accuracy.

Structural Design and Fabrication
The Aipu screen basket is engineered as a rigid, lightweight structure that efficiently transmits vibration energy from the motors to the screen deck while resisting the fatigue that constant vibration can cause. It is fabricated from structural steel sections and plate, with all welded joints designed and executed to withstand the millions of stress cycles experienced during normal operation. Post-weld heat treatment relieves residual welding stresses that could lead to premature fatigue cracking. The basket includes precision-machined mounting surfaces for the vibrating motors and precisely located support rails for the screen panels.
Mounting and Isolation
The basket is connected to the base frame through vibration isolation components—typically heavy-duty coil springs or engineered rubber mounts. These isolators serve the dual purpose of supporting the basket weight while allowing it to vibrate freely, and preventing the transmission of vibration to the rig structure. Aipu selects and sizes these isolators for each shaker model based on the basket weight, operating frequency, and vibration amplitude. Proper isolation is essential for both equipment longevity and rig personnel comfort and safety.
Screen Support System
The screen support rails mounted on the basket provide the flat, rigid surface on which screen panels rest. These rails must be precisely aligned and evenly spaced to ensure uniform screen tension and prevent localized high-wear points. Aipu fabricates these rails to tight tolerances and incorporates features that facilitate the quick-change screen retention system. Regular inspection of support rails for wear or damage is an important maintenance activity, as worn rails can reduce screen life and compromise separation performance.
Angle Adjustment Mechanism
On most Aipu shaker models, the basket incorporates an angle adjustment mechanism that allows the deck angle to be changed typically from minus 1 degree to plus 5 degrees. This adjustment is tool-free on Aipu designs, enabling operators to optimize the angle for current drilling conditions without stopping operations. The mechanism is designed for durability and ease of operation in the field environment.
