Semi-submersible drilling rigs operate in the most demanding offshore environments and require shale shaker equipment engineered for deepwater reliability, motion tolerance, and maximum corrosion resistance. Aipu Solids Control has developed shale shaker solutions specifically for semi-submersible applications, combining over 15 years of manufacturing experience with the specialized engineering that deepwater floating drilling demands.

The semi-submersible environment combines multiple equipment challenges. The rig operates in deep water, often far from shore-based support, making equipment reliability and self-sufficiency critical. Platform motion from wave action subjects the shaker to varying gravitational orientation, requiring mounting and fluid handling systems that maintain correct operation during heave, roll, and pitch. The marine atmosphere is aggressively corrosive, with continuous salt spray and high humidity. Space and weight allocations on semi-submersibles are among the most constrained in the drilling industry, with every ton of equipment weight affecting variable deck load calculations and every square meter of equipment competing with other essential functions.
Aipu addresses semi-submersible requirements through comprehensive design features. The shaker mounting system is designed to accommodate platform motion while maintaining the balanced vibration essential for effective solids separation. Premium vibrating motors from Ital-Vibras, Martin, and Oli operating at 6.0G to 7.5G of acceleration are mounted on a structure engineered for the dynamic loading of a moving platform. Corrosion protection is maximized with 316L stainless steel for all fluid contact surfaces, multi-layer marine-grade coating systems on structural components, and composite frame screens that eliminate metal corrosion from the most frequently replaced component. The shaker’s flow handling system—including the feed distribution header and fluid collection pan—is designed to maintain correct function during platform motion, preventing fluid spillage that would create safety and environmental hazards.
Weight and space optimization are achieved through finite element analysis-driven structural design that achieves necessary rigidity with minimum mass, and compact configurations that maximize capacity per unit of footprint. The Hunter-MG4D double-deck configuration provides 5.4 square meters of effective screen area in a compact footprint suitable for semi-submersible installation, while the Hunter-MG4T tandem configuration at 8.1 square meters provides maximum capacity where space permits. Quick-change screens, adjustable deck angles from minus 1 degree to plus 5 degrees, and comprehensive documentation support the rigorous maintenance programs that semi-submersible operators implement. Manufactured in Aipu’s 50,000 square meter Xi’an facility under API Q1 certified quality management with complete factory acceptance testing, semi-submersible shakers deliver the deepwater performance and reliability that define world-class offshore drilling operations. Equipment operating in more than 30 countries, including deepwater locations, validates Aipu’s semi-submersible shaker designs.
