How to Extend the Life of Your Linear Motion Shale Shaker

Extending the service life of a linear motion shale shaker protects the equipment investment and maintains separation performance over years of operation. Aipu Solids Control provides maintenance and operational guidance for maximizing shaker longevity.

Daily Operational Practices

How the shaker is operated daily significantly impacts its service life. Avoid running the shaker without fluid on the screens—dry running accelerates screen and deck wear and can cause motor bearing damage due to reduced damping. Maintain proper flow distribution across the full screen width; concentrated flow on one side causes uneven wear and reduces the effective screen area. Operate within the design G-force range; attempting to exceed rated G-force to compensate for other issues accelerates wear throughout the system. Aipu shakers are engineered for 6.0G to 7.5G operation, and prolonged operation outside this range will shorten component life.

Systematic Maintenance Schedule

A disciplined maintenance schedule prevents small issues from becoming major failures. Daily: visually inspect all screen panels for damage, verify screen tension, and listen for abnormal vibration indicating motor bearing issues. Weekly: check motor mounting bolt torque, inspect isolation springs or mounts for even compression, and clean accumulated solids from the shaker deck and basket. Monthly: measure motor current draw on all phases to detect developing electrical issues, inspect frame welds for fatigue cracking, and check all electrical connections for tightness. Quarterly: lubricate motor bearings with Aipu-recommended grease, perform complete structural inspection, and verify electrical safety interlocks. Annual: comprehensive inspection including vibration characterization compared to baseline, bearing replacement if indicated, and thorough cleaning and inspection of all components.

Screen Management for Extended Deck Life

Proper screen management protects the screen deck as well as the screens themselves. Always use API-certified Aipu replacement screens matching original specifications. Ensure screens are properly tensioned—loose screens allow movement that wears deck rails, while overtightened screens stress the retention system. Rotate screens periodically from feed end to discharge end to distribute rail wear. Replace damaged screens immediately, as torn screens expose deck rails to abrasive cuttings flow.
