Proper setup and operation of shale shaker equipment is essential for achieving optimal solids removal performance. Aipu Solids Control provides comprehensive guidance to ensure operators can commission and operate their equipment effectively from day one.

Pre-Operation Setup Checks
Before starting the shaker, verify that the unit is level on its foundation and that isolation springs or mounts are evenly compressed. Confirm that all shipping restraints have been removed. Check that screen panels are properly installed with correct tension and all retention hardware is secure. Verify electrical connections and phase rotation—incorrect phase rotation causes the motors to run backward. Check motor rotation direction before applying vibration force.
Initial Start-Up Procedure
Start the shaker without mud flow and observe vibration pattern for 5 to 10 minutes. Listen for abnormal noise indicating loose components or bearing issues. Verify that vibration appears balanced across the screen surface—uneven vibration suggests motor phasing or mounting problems. Check motor current draw on all phases; significant imbalance indicates electrical issues. Once vibration is confirmed normal, introduce mud flow gradually while monitoring shaker performance.
Adjusting for Operating Conditions
Aipu shakers offer adjustable deck angles from minus 1 degree to plus 5 degrees. Start at a moderate angle and adjust based on cuttings dryness and fluid retention. Steeper angles increase conveyance speed and produce drier cuttings but reduce retention time for fluid drainage. Shallower angles increase retention time for better fluid recovery but may slow cuttings discharge. On Hunter-MGD dual-motion shakers, select linear motion for hard formations and water-based mud, or elliptical motion for sticky shales and oil-based mud.
Continuous Monitoring During Operation
Throughout operation, monitor screen condition for tears or excessive wear. Watch for mud pooling on the screen surface indicating blinding or insufficient angle. Listen for vibration pattern changes suggesting motor issues. Check cuttings discharge consistency and dryness. Adjust deck angle or screen mesh as conditions change. Aipu quick-change screen system allows screen changes in minutes without specialized tools, supporting responsive operation throughout the drilling process.
